Fire Damage Restoration Tips

As soon as the fire in your home is out, you might be pretty anxious to re-enter the home and start the cleanup process, but if you do not take the time out to get some professional advice from your insurance claims adjuster, you will probably just be wasting your time or even possibly causing more damage than you repair.  Your insurance adjuster can give you some advice on how to restore or replace anything that was damaged in the fire or refer you to a professional fire restoration company.

Fire restoration companies can give you some tips to help prevent more damage from happening to your home and determine which items in your home can be refurbished.  They will also give you an estimate on how much it will cost to clean and deodorize the home thoroughly and even though the services of such a company can be expensive, it might be a lot less than actually having to replace the damaged furniture and floors of the home.

If you cannot afford a fire restoration company’s services, there are still some things that you can do on your own, but be sure that your fire marshal says that it is safe for you to go back in your home before you do, though.

Get some air circulating through the home first; do this by opening windows and doors and using a fan to get the air moving around.  If there has been a lot of water damage due to the fire trucks doing their job and it is warm outside, you will want to instead use a dehumidifier and leave the windows and doors shut.  During cold weather, you will be running your heater and the furnace filter should be replaced until there is no soot in it.

Any wet items should be dried immediately.  Carpets and drapes must be dried thoroughly.

A heavy duty vacuum cleaner may be needed to remove the soot and other burnt particles from your carpet and floors.  If you cannot afford to hire a professional cleaner to do this, do not use an upright vacuum cleaner or attachments because this will only set the soot and ash further into the carpet.  After you are done vacuuming the carpets, cover them with tarp to continue the cleaning process without soiling the carpet further.

Any copper or brass items need to be removed as soon as possible and cleaned with an appropriate metal cleaning chemical.  Smoke can severely damage these items if left untreated for over 24 hours.

Water Damage and Home Insurance

One of the most frequent and well known causes of home insurance claims is water damage. It is not a pleasant experience to discover that not everything in your home insurance policy is covered, but it happens nonetheless. If an appliance such as a dishwasher begins to leak uncontrollably on a floor, or a pipe somehow bursts due to poor insulation during the winter and there is damage and mold left behind as a result, it is important to find out whether or not your insurance will cover it.

If a pipe was to burst during the winter while you were on vacation and you had not properly insulated it from the cold, you most likely will not be covered due to lack of preparation that would have helped to prevent this from happening in the first place.

You should be covered for any water damage caused by the seemingly disregardable act of letting your bathtub overflow, even if you were on the phone or cooking and not paying much attention and forgot to simply turn off the bath water.  This accident is a fairly common occurrence.

Even in the common cases of a household appliance such as a dishwasher or washing machine suddenly malfunctioning and water gets all over the floor causing water damage, homeowner’s insurance will definitely cover this. Of course, you must pay for the necessary repairs on the machine on your own, but damage caused solely by the water is paid for by your insurance policy.

If the cause of the water damage is a leaky roof, and there is a heavy rain, you are covered by your insurance claim. You are also covered if rain seeps into your basement, if your basement floods into the basement and into the house itself. If a tree limb was to break off and damage your home and water damage to the structure resulted, then this would also be covered.

However, any water damage that may have been caused by a flood is not likely to be covered unless your insurance policy identifies a flood as a covered source of damage to your home. You must purchase flood insurance directly from the federal government, and your local community should be able to help you acquire any information as to whether they are a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Mold and Our Pets

Blastomycoses Mold, Mold And Sickness, Mold and Our Pets / No Comments

Most of us who have pets aren’t really aware that mold is just as dangerous to them as it is to us. In fact, pets, especially young ones and birds, are more susceptible to the affects of mold than human beings are. They are in the category of the first to suffer from the health complications associated with mold and some have even died while living in mold infested homes. Infants, pets, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are the most threatened when it comes to most environment-related health risks. One kind of mold in particular is more dangerous to our pets than others are and that is blastomycoses.

Blastomycoses is also a dangerous kind of mold that has been known to cause pneumonia, skin, and other respiratory infections in our pets. Other organs can be infected and it’s no surprise that these symptoms and complications can also occur in human beings. Much like the canaries in mines that were used long ago to detect poisonous gases, pets are often the ones to warn us that there is a problem in our home. While blastomycoses is a natural part of our every day environments, excessive amounts of it can be extremely harmful. It takes the form of a mold in an indoor or outdoor environment, but when it comes into contact with human beings or animals, it becomes a yeast. Once it has taken on the form of yeast, it is no longer contagious. The animal (or human) can only contract blastomycoses by inhaling the mold spores or by allowing them to enter the body through a cut or sore on the skin.

Unfortunately, pneumonia is the most common form of blastomycoses symptoms in pets and can lead to eventual death if it isn’t untreated. Dogs often cough, become tired or lazy in appearance, have trouble breathing, and cease eating. Skin infections often are wet and itchy and can damage muscle and bone structure if something is not done about them.

Blastomycoses can be dealt with using antifungal medications and a full recovery can be made in up to six months, although a blasto infection is often misdiagnosed and by the time it is diagnosed correctly, it is often too late.

The dogs most affected by blasto are larger, male, young dogs, and any breed that spends a lot of time outdoors, even though blastomycoses is a mold that can grow indoors.

Custom kitchens design: mission impossible?

new york kitchen design / No Comments

There is much debate about which city ought to be considered most ahead of the curve when it comes to remodeling trends, especially in kitchen design: New York? Chicago? Miami? LA? Custom kitchens are a dime a dozen these days, so it would be a great honor to be considered on the cutting edge of the innovation in the area of kitchen design. In my critical eye, one city and one city alone stands about the rest: New York City. NYC kitchens and NYC kitchen design stands apart in my mind because the way it is shaped by the hundreds of thousands of people who enlist the service of a good New York City kitchen designer.

NYC custom kitchens are by far ahead of the curve not only because of the myriad tastes they incorporate, but also because of the requirements placed upon them. In small apartment kitchens, design has to take into consideration space optimization for the ultimate efficiency, which will make the kitchen a joy to use. And yet in other cases, kitchens must reflect the status of their owners, taking advantage of grand Central Park vistas, for instance, or of cutting edge Italian kitchen design elements that will wow guests who attend the kitchen owners regular, extravagant social events.

By contrast, LA or Chicago custom kitchens do not compare to NY custom kitchens because of the stakes aren’t quite as high and the diversity isn’t as great. Los “angels” and Chicagoans aren’t quite as cramped in their quarters, don’t experience the same competition for the best or most attractive kitchen, and don’t have the benefit of kitchen designers who meet with the most demanding of customers on a regular basis to make their kitchens work for them. That’s why I feel that NYC custom kitchen are far superior, overall, to kitchens in other major US cities

Guitar Wiring Diagrams, Stock and Custom

We’ve put together lists of all the parts and wiring diagrams you need to change the wiring or simply renew old wiring into convenient to use packs. Each kit includes it’s own wiring diagram and parts list to tell you just how to do it.

Special Notes:

Rewiring an old guitar using the stock wiring diagram can be very frustrating.  Wiring diagrams, whether stock or for a custom upgrade are mostly hard to find, and in many cases hard to comprehend, thus making them unlikely to work well.

Every diagram and part we list is fully tested many times to insure you get the vibe you want. Not only that, every component is designed to give outstanding life and the best tone that you have ever experienced.

The guitar wiring kit shown here is a 5-way lever action switch for all 3 pickup Fender Stratocaster’s, and other 3 pickup guitars. The kit has very detailed directions that are very well explained so most people will understand them with no problems.

Realistically speaking, so many people have their own personal wiring setups and parts they may interchange that GuitarPlayersCenter only feels comfy dealing in proven setups. In fact one of my personal fav’s is a  setup that includes an EMG-SPC control knob being installed in a Stratocaster. What a great switch,  at least in my opinion. I get the best service and prices from Guitar Center or Musicians Friend.

Don’t make a mistake, if you are not inclined to doing these upgrades, then take it to a competent luthier/guitar maker.

Remember to use a solder gun with a replaceable tip , top line solder and flux and don’t get the switches too hot.

Go to Guitar Players Center for all of your guitar needs from upgrades, lessons, reviewing certain models to purchasing them with the best prices and service in the industry.

Good luck and Enjoy.
